The other day I listened to an interview with Kira Lehtomaki, who is Head of Animation at Disney and coordinated the team of animators for the movie Encanto. Kira is a few years younger than me, and her work reaches millions of children every year. Millions! I watched many of Kira’s interviews online about her work and Encanto, I really admire the work of these people, the great responsibility they have (and are aware of).
It was only 20 minutes. She talked about what it’s like to know that you have such a big influence on so many generations of children, about the diversity in movies, about how a young person passionate about animation can end up replacing Kira in a few years. I admired her openness and the sincerity of her answers. I hope you like it and get inspired! We’ve seen Encanto many, many times, we know the soundtrack by heart (not only in English, but also in Spanish), we really liked it. It seems to me a beautiful story about family acceptance, even if you are different, about how each of us, even the strongest, have weaknesses and need to be helped and understood, about family pressure and the courage to find the road with the family, not against it.
